This label (opened by clicking the triangle in the column heading) appears to be reserved for SPC header information. Is there any way to read and write to that label with LabTalk or OriginC? It would be handy place to store information that you don't want to appear in the column label, for example.

We have been working on adding a general support for user information in both columns and pages level. You can access them from both LabTalk and OriginC. This will be available soon in the upcoming SR2 release.
The information storage is similar to an INI file structure, but we support more levels of nesting.

I agree. It would be nice if the column labels could be toggled Viewable/Hidden by an icon in the woksheet (like the SPC triangle) and a checkbox in the worksheet column format dialog. Then you could add detailed information to a label and hide it when working with the data. As well it would be nice to have the labels remain small and have the option to have a mouseover pop-up to read them.
