Origin Ver.8.5 win7

I am trying to show in a 3D bar graph, a series of Y values (expression levels) distributed in spots (X,Z) of a bidimensional diagram or pathway of genes (L) to visualize selected results of an expression microarray.

Also I would like to identify each of the spots by its name (L).
I enclose an example down the email.

Is it possible?
Thanks, julio

ZHENG, sorry I just notice I spelled your name uncorrectly in the previous communications.

I checked information about 3D and it seems a very good idea to use wider drop lines in scatter 3D. The addition of manual text labels might not be too much work because I would need to label only those more significant.

However, I do not understand too much about matrixes. Not yet! Furthermore, I might have to use + and - axes for the expression values or logs. That is probably not without further problems....

I sincerely apologize, Julio

Thank you for your help, Zhen!

I will have to go into the matrix world then. I will try.

cheers, julio

You can use thick drop lines in 3D scatter to let it looks like bar, though. But you still cannot add labels.
Actually there is no 3D label until 9.0 Origin.
You can add text objects as labels after making the graph, but this requires lots of manpower...

Hi,

It is still doable in 8.5...
You may need to build a matrix with these points only (other cells be missing values) and then make a 3D bar from it. Since your Y data is random-like, you may use your Z as Y and Y as Z. You can rotate the graph after plotting.

This kind of convert XYZ to matrix seems can only be done manually...

And there is no way to put labels on...

THANK YOU ZHEN: that was exactly what I need!

Do you mean that I have to buy the version 9.1 to make that? It occur to me that I have to buy 8.5 because another problem could not be solved by 8.0 !. It looks like I always need something that is solved in the next version!!!!!

There is no way to convert that data to a matrix and use Origin 8.5 or 8.6?

Thanks again, sincerely, julio

Hi,

In 8.5 Origin, 3D bar plot can only be created by matrix data. So you might need to find a way to turn your XYZ to matrix first.

BTW, is this what you want? It is created in 9.1, which does not have the limitation above.
