Is there a LabTalk or OriginC method for showing and hiding the PE window?

...Alternatively, can you determine the show/hide state of PE?

Not at the moment, a very good suggestion. We will try to get this into SR2 via Origin C, like

if(!Project.IsVisible(CWT_PROJECT_EXPLORER))
Project.ShowWidnow(CWT_PROJECT_EXPLORER);

similarily for CWT_SCRIPT_WINDOW, CWT_RESULTS_LOG etc.

This is tracked as #2540
