Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin):
Operating System:

I have a very simple problem. I want to extrapolate the line from the same data set which has two different slopes and find out where they intercept in the x-axis. (i.e. the graph levels off- I want to intercept the point at which it starts to level off).

Many thanks
Haris

Hi Haris,

Yes, Chris's approach works when you already have the fitted line for the second region. Additionally,
if it is before having the fitted line there, you can try non-linear curve fitting with a piecewise function
(Category=Piecewise, Function=PWL2); then you get the slopes and intercepts of both regions (the
derived parameter, "a2" is the intercept of the second region).

Hope this hints additionally.

Hi,

If you have Origin 2016 and wish to do it via the user interface, we have an Onset Of Slope App (http://www.originlab.com/fileExchange/details.aspx?fid=288) that does exactly what you want to do easily. Note- the App only works with Origin 2016 and future versions that have yet to be released.

If you are not using Origin 2016, you can download a demo here:
http://www.originlab.com/demodownload.aspx

Thanks,
Chris Drozdowski
