Hello everyone. I am operating a research spectrofluorimeter which acquires and processes data through an origin-powered software called FluorEssence. Basically, custom acquisition windows allow you to set and communicate physical parameters to the instrument and the software collects the datasets live, point by point, and arranges them in a worksheet organized as table/graph/note.
The problem is that even though this whole setup is around 100k€, it still requires a lot of manual supervision. By regulating (or mis-regulating) some mechanical parameters via the custom menus, or due to distraction, the main photodiode in the instrument can be overflowed with light, and can be fried to a crisp.
This is usually managed by the operator following some common sense patterns, such as slowly increasing parameters and so on, but it cannot be always predicted and the operator has to stare for hours at the raw data during the acquisition with the finger on the "Abort" or "Close Shutter" button. The danger zone is reached when the raw, live data being collected by Origin gets over the value of 1mil CPS (counts per second). This is especially ludicrous as the CPS must be around 100-600k for the resolution to be good, so you can see how mistakes could happen.
Is there a way to create a script that aborts the acquisition (hell, even shutting down the software above 10mil CPS would still be better than burning the instrument) when the parameter S1 in the live feed reaches 1mil?
