I know this is pretty basic for the forum, but it's frustrating that the Long Name of a column doesn't take symbols or formatting. When I wish to have symbols and formatting in my chart labels I have to remove the reference and do it manually, including the units (which in the column do take formatting and symbols). There's likely a reason for this, like it must be an ASCII string for programmatic reasons, but maybe another column header type could be added, like "Formattable Name" for us light users.
Or maybe that's why there's a User Defined column header available: I've got one but it isn't included in the axis label.

Hi luser,
You can use the "rich text" formatted text for the Long Name if you set the worksheet to allow the formatting. To do so, you can choose "Format: Worksheet" menu (or right-click in the gray area in the worksheet, then choose "Properties" flyout), select "Format" tab in the dialog, select "Long Name" for the "Apply To" drop-down. Then, you can turn ON the "Rich Text" check box. This operation can be done for the Data, or Comments as well. (Rich Text is the default for the Unit already.)
Please note that once you used a formatted text for a long name (yes, it is a name!), e.g., when you make a long name ABC colored RED, then it would be referred as \c2(ABC) for example in the Plot Details dialog, not ABC.

P.S. If you want to save the Rich Text setting as the default for your worksheets, you can save the worksheet as a template ("File: Save Template As" menu).
