Origin Ver. 8.6.0 and Service Release 3 b99
Operating System: Win 7
Hi,
I would like to plot some data using line + symbol graph but with reduced number of symbols. My goal is to facilitate comparison of 4 different data set on one graph and symbols are to be used to distinguish between lines (in addition to colours)
I know that I can accomplish that by different types of lines (solid, dashed etc.)
but in journals in my area this is usually done by different types of symbols plotted on the solid lines.
Is there any easy way to do that in Origin? I could possibly combine 1) scatter plot from a few data points with 2) solid lines plotted from full set of data but I am looking for a quicker way of doing that

Could you please give me some suggestions?

Hi suku12,

You can try the following simple two settings in "Plot Details" dialog for the Line+Symbol plot:

1) In the "Drop Lines" tab, turn ON the "Skip Points" check box, and enter the number of points to be skipped.

2) In the "Line" tab, turn OFF the "Gap to Symbol" check box.

Now, you see the full line plot with fewer number of symbols.

Hope this works as you wanted.
