It would be quite cool to be able to package a script, icon, tooltip etc into a self contained file that could be distributed. To install, one simply downloads the file to a local directory and drags the icon to a tool bar in Origin, where it appears as a button that executes the embedded script when pressed.

Or is there already something similar to this in 6? I've not played much with customising it yet.

This sounds just like the new OPK technology in 6.1. Package scripts, bitmaps, support files, DLLs, whatever ... into one OPK file that you can give to another Origin 6.1 user. All they need to do is drag-and-drop the single OPK file onto Origin 6.1 and bingo!: the needed files are all saved in the Origin folder and the toolbar is created and displayed ready-to-use. The OPK file uses compression technology so it's ready for email or download.

Hi,

Origin 6.0 already has this very cool feature...for an excellent example point your browser to our Applications page and then select the link below.

Add-on Tools: A collection of very useful worksheet and graph tools for Origin 6.0.

This also serves as an illustration of how the AddOn Setup feature works in Origin 6.0.

The Add-on Tools page also contains a down loadable PDF file that fully documents the Origin 6.0 Add-on feature.

Thanks for a good question...have fun.

-Gary
