I am going nuts. Why can't I make changes to an origin file in power point? When I do, I end up with this amazing 3 foot graph...any thoughts?

Scott, the changes eliminate the problem with the large graphs, so thanks a lot, but the problem with the legend is not fixed.
In my origin.ini the legend is set Legend=\L(%d) %%(%d)\r\n.
\L(1) %(1) gives me the column label if it exists-otherwise the column name (default legen for new created graphs).
\L(1) %(1,@w) gives me the worksheet-name
\L(1) %(1,@d) gives me the datasetname
\L(1) %(1,@l) gives me the column-label
All works fine in origin (6.0Prof SR4 on Network-NT4.0 SP5 machine).
If I do copy page and paste into powerpoint97SR2 I find in the pasted graph after the graph symbol (e.g. the black line):
\L(1) %(1) changed from legend back to columnname
\L(1) %(1,@w) changed to ###
\L(1) %(1,@d) is OK
\L(1) %(1,@l) completely disappeared, I only find the graph symbol.
It seems strange that immediately after inserting I see the legend, so why does it disappear when pasting is complete?
I hope this problem will be fixed soon, too.

Good News!
We have found why this problem is occuring. It has to do with a line of code in the Origin.Ini file. During the installation of the Origin 6.0 SR2 - SR4 patch, the Origin.ini file was not updated. This problem pertains to both the single user version and network installation. The fix is the same, but network users must make the change on both the Origin Client and Server.

For network users go to the server and look at the Origin.ini file with a text editor. Make sure that Origin is not running. Search for the following line.

AddEMFInCopyPage=0

If the value of this property is set to 1, please set it to 0 as shown in the line above and save this as the default.

Go to a computer with Origin Client installed. Reinstall the Client from the server. Now check the Origin.ini file on this client computer and verify that:

AddEMFInCopyPage=0

If it is set to 1 please edit this to set it to 0 and save as you did with the client. I believe that you will find PowerPoint is now working properly.

For standard Origin users you need only go to the Origin.ini file and make the necessary change.

AddEMFInCopyPage=0

Make sure that you restart Origin after editing the ini file.

scott, please keep in mind that the problem with the large graphs does not occur in SR1, but there is the problem with the legend (I posted it 02-25-2000)...
and the problem with the 'staircase effect' Ledig posted 02-23-2000 ...

Markus, I appreciate all of the work you have done testing the different versions. Knowing that the problem was fixed in SR1 but is again a problem in the newer releases is of great help. We have not been able to reproduce the problem in the laboratory so your information is very important. I will add onto this thread when I have more details available.

Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott,
I tried it with the english Professional- Version of Origin60 on a german WinNT 4.0 SP5 on a Computer in our network. Without any service release I got the large grafic in Powerpoint97 SR2, with Origin-SR1 it worked fine, with SR2, SR3 and SR4 I got the large grafic again. On an other PC with the same OS and Office-version it worked with the non Professional-Version and SR1 too. Both Computer have the origin50-version as a backup-program...
I hope the problem will be fixed soon.

Markus

Marcus, We have received a small number of reports of this problem reoccurring. The other case occurred with computers running Windows NT 4. We are working on the problem. If you could tell us the operating system you are using, if you are on a network, and if you previously had an earlier version of Origin installed. This includes Origin 6.0 SR1, SR2, or SR3. Did this problem occur in the earlier versions of Origin? Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Laurie,

I have a similar problem with origin60 SR4 and Power point97 SR2; when editing the inserted graph and exit from origin I end up with this large graph in power point.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Markus
