The datafile DS_000_DataMax_XG0.Dat available by ftp from elecmigr.lancs.ac.uk/pub is a simple, variable column length tab delimited ascii file. Origin used to correctly identify the first line as headings, then the rest of the file as data. I assume this is based upon the fact that the first line contains text and the rest are all numbers.

Origin now identifies the first three lines as header lines, truncating the data and losing the fits.

The SR2 patch program does not install new copies of files rather it modifies originally installed files. This approach saves users time when downloading and patching but can introduce complications when users have customized files that need to be updated by the patch. As you have reported, the SR2 patch program currently does not update or replace user modified files (so that we do not overwrite the modifications). Instead, we provide a list of files not updated and an additional download file that contains an updated copy of all user modifiable files in Origin that the patch updates.

One of the most powerful features of Origin is its great capacity for users to customize its interface. We encourage this customization. If you have customized the release version of Origin 6.0 (or Origin 6.0 SR1) and you apply the Origin 6.0 SR2 patch you must be careful to download these additional files and integrate your customizations into the new versions of these files. It is especially important that files of type *.OGS be updated. See the section titled

I have also tried to select the worksheet template for each data file, as the help file says I can, but I didn't found how to do this.

Is there an easy way to go back to SR1 while these problems are solved?

P.S. I have found another one even more dramatic: both the linear and polynomial fit tools don't work at all. All checkmarks and parameter boxes appear blank, but after filling them still don't do anything. I cannot increase the polynomial order from zero... What a disaster!

P.S.2. I realized that this could be because my patch did not update pr.ogs and lr.ogs, as I had previously modified them. I manually updated these files and now they work fine. I will have to redo my changes at the end...

It does appear that with regard to importing this ASCII text file there is a difference in behavior between the release version of Origin 6.0 and Origin 6.0 SR2. I have forwarded your ASCII text file along with a description of the problem to our developers for their evaluation.

In the mean time, I was able to correctly import your file by specifying 1 for "# of lines used for structure testing." If you import a lot of ASCII files with this structure you can save the required ASCII import options in a worksheet template to simplify the user interactions required at import time.
