If you create a graph with groups and make
the group dependend on line style you run into a problem as soon as you try to start with a line style quite late in the list. If origin has to restart at the beginning of the
style list it skips the first entry (that means the SOLID LINE) and uses the DOT-LINE instead.

Funny is that in the legend you'll still find the SOLID line as it should be.

Even funnier is that this effect doesn't occur on the screen. ONLY when printed you will come across this problem.

Marko,

The bug you discovered and reported here has been corrected in our new version, Origin 6.1.

We are currently taking orders for the English version of Origin 6.1, but the German version isn't due out until the end of October. I'm not sure which version you have, but I thought I'd at least let you know!

Note: Orders for the German version of Origin 6.1 (when it is released) should be made through Additive. Orders for the English version should be made through our Online Store.

Sincerely,

Marko,

In order to reproduce the problem I created and plotted 9 datasets (one more than the number of line styles defined in Plot Details) as line plots (in Origin 6.0). I then opened Plot Details and selected the Line Style check box on the Group tab and clicked OK. Upon clicking OK I saw that the legend and the actual plot lines disagreed at the 8th and 9th data plots in the group.

To be more specific, the 8th line appeared to be some sort of dashed and dotted line while the legend showed it as solid and the 9th line appeared to be solid while the legend showed it as dashed.

After thinking about this some more I determined that there is an extra line style built into the code which has not been included into the Origin user interface. In other words, although Plot Details shows 8 line styles:

  1. solid
  2. dash
  3. dot
  4. dash dot
  5. dash dot dot
  6. short dash
  7. short dot
  8. short dash dot

there are really 9 (the 9th one being "short dash dot dot"). I have entered a bug report requesting that the 9th line style be incorporated into Plot Details (as well as the Graph tab of the Options dialog box). Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention.

Sincerely,
Ryan Toomey
