Hi,

I quite often notice a SERIOUS problem with
O6.0/Prof/SR4.

If I try to calculate some worksheet columns
using the "Column/Set Column Values..." or
from within a script with "%h_c=%h_a/2"
it appears that the resulting column once
again only shows a minus (meaning there is nothing in it). If I only assign column A to C with "%h_c=%h_a" it works... What is it?

I don't know why this happens, but it bothers me more and more and I am very much concerned about this bug, because it spoils the whole pleasure working with Origin!!!!!

Any idea?

Thanks for your reply, Greg.

What concerns the column type problem you already might have read my own response on that problem, I realized that.

Well, what concerns the problem with datasets I will try to reproduce that and post an example project to Additive. I am also quite astonished that there are no other origin users who ever met such a situation, but at least I know a colleague of mine who had a similar case.

Anyway, thanks for your response once again, it's good to see that you are in close contact to your customers who really value this software.

Regards,
Marko

You seem to be having a number of problems that we can not reproduce here. While Tech Support does monitor the Forum, our responses are targeted more towards all users and it is difficult for us to respond to posts that describe problems that other or most users don't seem to have. I think you would benefit greatly by contacting your Tech Support representative. In your case, Tech Support is provided by Additive.

FYI

Thorough testing of your claim that:

%h_c=%h_a/2;

does not work can not be verified. The fact that you say you sometimes see a minus (in fact, a double minus is Origin's indicator of a missing value) is more likely the result of a syntax error when typing. If you can demonstrate this problem, please email Additive and they will forward the report to us.

In another post, you suggested that numbers in column names cause problems. Since some of Origin's built-in LabTalk scripts use commands that create enumerated column names this problem would be pervasive, and we would appreciate any directions you can provide to duplicate the problem.

RE: Your post about http://www.originlab.com/bulletin_board/Forum1/HTML/000675.html">column type.

When you check the "Use Numeric as preferred column type" check box, then any new columns that you or Origin creates will by default be typed Numeric. When you click the "New Worksheet" button on the standard toolbar or select File : New : Worksheet from the Origin menu, then you are loading a worksheet template with pre-defined columns. The "New Worksheet" button loads the ORIGIN.OTW template. If you wish these columns to be Numeric, then change the column types and save the template.

It looks like I found the reason.

The worksheet name was "T0" and I by accident
tried it in another worksheet called "data1" which is usually present... and funny it is it worked... as soon as I renamed it to something like "T0" it didn't allow computations in the columns anymore...

It's amazing what kind of problems you meet if you work with Origin... This is a science itself. I wish I would have stayed with Origin 5....
