Dear Originlab,

I use your software as an every day tool for my data analysis and that is why I quite frequently post requests to your forum. It's good to know that you made some corrections in Origin 6.1. But there is one problem with it. I would have to buy this once again "new" version of Origin. I am quite sad that such things aren't made available in a service release of 6.0.

We buy quite regularyly updates and new versions in our institute since quite a few people like to use it, but honestly, you can't buy it every half year and start all over again because the new versions contain certainly new bugs and unfortunately some functionality of older versions gets lost in
some cases.

I think this is not the right way to handle your customers. To go from O5 to O6 was just a change of the layout of all the dialogs, just to adapt origin to the newest windows 95 dialog types, that's all, in my opinion.
That's why I do believe that it is quite unfair to confront your 6.0 customers with a new 6.1 instead of SR5, SR6 and maybe more of that...

This is really sad.

Best regards,
Marko Käning

I'm sorry but I feel pretty much the same way as Marko does.
There are a lot of new features in Origin 6.1 and you are right in charging for an upgrade.
However bug fixes, especially the important ones, like the graphics export routine, should be provided free of charge.

Marko,
I greatly appreciate this feedback that you have provided. Though I understand your concerns, please keep in mind the following:
OriginLab provided four service releases free of charge for English Origin 6.0. These service releases included bug fixes and also some new features. (You can review the release notes for each service release to see what was fixed and added.)
English Origin 6.1 is now available - 15 months after English Origin 6.0 was released. We understand the annoyance of having to pay for upgrades too frequently. We try to time our releases to maximize quality and functionality. A release cycle of 15 months is fairly standard - particularly for a release that only costs $89 (upgrading from English Origin 6.0 to English Origin 6.1).
You can check out the new Origin 6.1 features at:
http://www.originlab.com/www/origin/index.asp
From your previous posts, it seems you are experiencing some problems with graphic export in 6.0. I suggest you try out our 6.1 graphic export routines and see if you see improvement. You can submit your graph as an OGG file (File:Save Window As) at: http://www.originlab.com/www/demo_english/upload.cfm
After you upload your graph file, OriginLab emails you back the graphic export file.
