When opening a file with the open-file button or with the menu bar, Origin 6.0 shows this error message (translated from German):
"FDLOG.MULTIOPEN.COMBOSEL is an invalid name for a variable. The name of a variable must not begin with a numer or an operator and must not contain any dots. #Command Error!"
What`s the meaning of this message?

This sort of system-specific problem is one which would best be handled by contacting your Origin dealer, Additive GmbH (send technical inquiries to origin@additive-net.de).

However, from your description we suspect that what has happened is that you got a bad patch application. You state that you are using version 6. Origin 6.0 Release (@v=6.0211 in the script window) did not support FDLOG.MULTIOPEN.COMBOSEL; this property was added in later 6.0 builds (it is supported in 6.0 SR4 or v=6.0284 in the script window or 6.0 SR4 in Help: About Origin).

This message might indicate a "mixed" installation of Origin, in which case you might get all kinds of strange behaviors. I would suggest that you uninstall the software, reinstall the software from your product CD, and then reapply Patch 4 for Origin 6.0. I am assuming that you are using the German version of Origin 6.0, so you will want to contact Additive for that patch file.

FYI, we find that the most frequent causes of a bad patch are:

1. running the patch file from the folder that contains the Origin.exe. Put the patch file in a temporary folder before launching it.

2. Origin is running while the patch is being applied. This is not permissible as any loaded dlls will not be upgraded.

3. Trying to apply a patch file across a network. The patch should be applied from the machine where the .exe resides.

Thanks and good luck.
