Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.5.0 SR0
Operating System: Windows 7 x64

Hello all,
I am a newbie to Origin and I'm having trouble with handling the text objects of eps figures exported by Origin. For instance, if I use matlab to obtain an eps figure, I can easily modify the text font, size etc. of the texts in the figure (such as the labels or legend) using Adobe Illustrator without having the need to export again from MATLAB.

But for some reason, the text objects in Origin plots are not recognized as text by Illustrator and therefore I cannot modify them as easily. Is there a configuration setting that I have to make to obtain a similar behavior as in MATLAB figures?
Thanks.

Hi cm_alper,

Regarding the margin issue, have you tried to set the "Margin Control" (at "Export Settings> Margin Control" option branch in the export tool) to either "Tight" or "Tight in Page"? These options should give you tighter margins around your graph.

Regarding the axis labels at some aspect ratios, maybe you can send your Origin file and the result EPS to us (by clicking the link of "Send File to Tech support" at the top of this page) so that we can look at what went wrong by reproducing the problem.

Hello,

Actually, most of the times, I use Illustrator to shrink down the margins of the plots. Usually origin plots that I export are quite wide. So, when I use the eps'es from Origin as is in latex for instance, the figures look very small since latex compiler tries to fit the empty regions also inside the page. Any tip to fix such behavior within Origin is welcome. I've tried playing with dimensions of the figure but it doesn't seem to work. Also for some aspect ratios, I see that the axis labels fall outside the white region, therefore they are not fully exported in eps'es.

Hi,

Can I ask why you edit your EPS files in Adobe Illustrator? What aspect of the export are you trying to change/correct in AI, that you cannot change in Origin?

Hi cm_alper,

In the graph export tool, there is an option for fonts, which can be found at the option branch: "Image Settings> EPS Option> Fonts", and the default is "Use Outline Fonts" (which handles the text as an outline image - therefore no font information inside the file resulting much smaller file size and less troublesome with specially encoded characters).
You can change this selection to either "Use Built-in Fonts" or "Use Substitution".

Does it work?
