Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): OriginPro 9.0.0.G Operating System: Windows XP
When exporting images to eps files the file size seems to depend only on the data used for the plot and not on the range I want to plot.
This means that I have to cut the data by hand in order to get nice small eps files.
Is this intended or is there any faster way to do it?
Thanks a lot!

Posted - 03/05/2013 : 11:58:07 AM Hi Michael,
Thank you for the explanation.
I can reproduce it as well now and it also happens with several image types.
I tried if plotting contour from Matrix, no such problem. Maybe for now you can convert your XYZ data to Matrix and then plot contour?
Also it happens when you press Z key and use scroll bar to zoom in to change the X axis range. Shift+Z and use scrollbar is for Y direction zoom.
I jiraed it in https://originlab.jira.com/browse/ORG-8223 and emailed our developer to look into it.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks, Snow Li OriginLab Corp.

Posted - 03/05/2013 : 08:14:59 AM I am plotting a contour plot from xyz data.
a) For example I have data from 1 to 100 for x and y. I draw a contour plot from this data and modify the axis scale to show only the data from 1 to 10 for x and y.
b) The other method is to take the same data and delete everything bigger than e.g. 12. So the data is from 1 to 12 for x and y. I also draw a contour plot for this data and modify the axis to show the same picture as for a)
Exporting a) and b) as eps now leads to different file sizes for the two which gets bigger the more data points are deleted.
Hope this gets clearer now. I also sent you the two eps and the opj file. |

Posted - 03/04/2013 : 3:12:37 PM Hello,
Could you send the project (opj file) to us (tech@originlab.com) and quote this post in the email?
We want to know What kind of graph you are plotting? What do you mean by a range. Do you mean you select a range of data to plot or do you mean after plotting all data, you modified axis scales to show only part of data, etc.
Thanks, Snow Li OriginLab Corp.

No, the graph size and range are working fine.
The problem is if I take a large range and make a color coded plot the size of the eps (like in MB) gets very big no matter the range I choose for the graph. It seems as in the eps file the information of the whole data range is included. So in order to get a small file I have to cut the worksheet at aproximately the range I want to have the graph afterwards.
Is there no better solution to get smaller files (in MB)? |

Posted - 03/01/2013 : 03:14:24 AM Hi I am not sure whether you want to change the range of the plot, or resize the exported graph.
If you want to change the range of the plot, you can use axis dialog to set the X and Y Axes scale. Please refer to these help pages: http://www.originlab.com/www/helponline/Origin/en/UserGuide/Controlling_the_Graph_Axis_Display_Range.html http://www.originlab.com/www/helponline/Origin/en/UserGuide/The_Scale_Tab.html
If you want to specify the graph size when you export it, you can set it under the ˇ°Image Sizeˇ± section in the Export Graph dialog. Please refer to this help page: http://www.originlab.com/www/helponline/Origin/en/UserGuide/The_Export_Graph_Dialog_Box.html
Hope this information can help you.
