To measure the absorption coefficient, a commercially available THz time-domain spectrometer can be used.

According to this paper ˇ§Terahertz Waveguides and Materialsˇ¨ http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=4222223
Terahertz absorption coefficients are measured in cm-1.

But why? What Ive learned before is that attenuation coefficients are normally measured in dBcm-1.

So are they different? Or just the same?

1/cm used the natural logarithm to compute the ratio.

It can be converted as:

1/cm = 10*log(e) dB/cm = 4.34 dB/cm
