Origin thus far has been extremely frustrating to use. I want to perform Savitsky-Golay smoothing on a column of data and have the smoothed data inserted into a new column. Amazingly, although it is easy to plot the smoothed data on a graph, there appears to be no way to store the data in a column. The directions for writing a macro are opaque to say the least. I can't understand why such a sophisticated and expensive program can't do such a simple thing.

It's very easy to write a script to do this. In fact if you look at the LabTalk Forum it has already been done in tha past two days. Just follow the copy and paste instructions!

An easier method...
In the graph window that contains the smoothed data, double-click on the smoothed data set's plot icon in the legend (for example, the red line in the legend). This opens Plot Details for the smoothed data set. Then click the Worksheet button.

After you do a smooth of your data, you can create a worksheet column containing the smoothed data set as follows:
1. When the graph is active that contains the smoothed data, select Data:SmoothedDataSet from the Origin menu. This makes the smoothed data set active in the graph.
2. Now re-select the same menu command to open Plot Details for the smoothed data set.
3. Click the Worksheet button to create the worksheet containing the smoothed data set.
