Hi all,
I seem to have a recurring bug using Origin: at certain momements, without any particular action, the regular mouse cursor changes to the panning/zoom function and cannot be turned back to the regular cursor. Usually, after randomly hitting some keys and mouse clicks the cursor changes back but one time quicker than the other. Right now it seems really stuck. Rebooting the system or relaunching Origin does not help. Is there a solution for this?

We too have seen this problem. Often, but not always, we see a hand with a "percent" sign in the middle. Again, often, but not always, pressing "shift+A" reverts the "pan" tool to the "arrow". |

I also recently encountered this problem. Pressing "y" did turn my cursor back to the pointer tool. Also, after editing the system variables and restarting Origin, the cursor was the pointer tool, as it should be. Thank you for the help. |

This problem - struck in panning/zooming mode might be caused by the conflict with the smart hint.
Could you please try to disable the smart hint to avid such conflict by the following way?
1) Choose "Tools: System Variables" menu to open Set System Variables tool.
2) Enter SHS in the Variable field, 0 in the Value field.
Click OK.
3) Restart Origin, and check whether the problem has gone, or not. Please let us know if this worked, or not.

P.S. Another user has reported that pressing Z, then Y keys releases the panning mode; Or, possibly pressing X, Y, or Z keys may work:

Hi Hideo,
Pressing A, X, Y or Z does not change the pointer: it remains in the panning function. Only pressing the space bar has an effect: it toggles the panning mode. However, it remains in this function until it changes back to the normal cursor after some time without a clear cause.
However, I've just discovered that pressing the Y-key brings the regular arrow cursor back. I'll take screenshots anyway and send them to you guys. Thanks for the support so far.

Hi ThijsV,
We have received several similar reports (incident id: ORG-12461), but so far we couldn't find a consistent way to reproduce this problem. Some people said that minimizing Origin and using other application(e.g. Excel for an hour or so) then the problem goes. Or, closing and restarting Origin multiple times, the issue also would go.
Does the Rescale tool has similar problem? Or, do pressing and holding keys A, X, Y, Z fixes switch corresponding tool correctly? Releasing these keys should revert tool back to Arrow. Does it happen?
Finally, could you please send the screenshot of Origin window including all Origin toolbars, buttons and their state to us when you launch Origin and there is Zoom-Pan tool problem? Also, send us the screenshot of the task manager to show what else programs/tasks are running when the problem occurs. Thanks for your quick reply. Since I was also typing a report without any textual problems, it couldn't have been the keyboard.
This phenomenon occurs several times per hour and is really annoying: one cannot work until the cursor changes back to normal on itself. This is not a known problem I understand?

Hi Thijs,
Was A key on your keyboard kept pressing by mistake? If A key is pressed the cursor will change to panning mode. In this case you cannot click the pointer  button on the Tools toolbar to change it to pointer.
