Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 2015G
Operating System: Win7, 32bit

Hi,

I have a list of xy data, which I use to generate a scatter plot. Now I want to choose specific points (which lie belong to each other due to a relation Origin does not know) and fit a line or maybe something nonlinear to it. However if I use the select points tool, some points are not selected at all and sometimes points which are not in the drawn are are selected. Is there an easy way how I can select specific points by just clicking on them.... ?

thank you and best regards,
Florian

Amazing. Sad that I didnĀ“t realize that before, very useful!

Thank you!

Hi Florian,

Origin supports recalculation and changing parameter so you don't need to repeat the procedure from the beginning.
http://originlab.com/index.aspx?go=Products/Origin/DataAnalysis&pid=1953

See the green lock on the upper-left corner of the graph window. Left click on it and choose Change Parameters...

It will open the dialog again for you to change settings.

E.g. for linear fit dialog, you can change the X range of fitted curve plot. Set Range as Span to Full Axis Range in the image below.

For Nonlinear Curve Fit dialog, it's on Settings tab. Fitted Curves page.

We don't support adding arrow at the end of plotted line. But you can use use Tools toolbar to add an arrow object at any position you want.

Thanks, Snow

A very indirect method, but it works perfectly, thanks!

I have a follow-up question: I was always wondering whether I could easily change the properties of a fit after it is already drawn. For example I would like to have it plotted extending the fitted data range. Is that possible or do I have to make a new fit?

A second question is, whether I could attach arrows at the end of a plotted line (in this case a linear fit)?

Hi,

If you want to perform a fitting on selected points, you can use data masking feature. To do so, first make a scatter plot as you did earlier:

Then go to menu Data:Mask Data Points and use mouse click to select points wanted to be fitted:

After that, use ESC key to end points picking and right click on one of the masked points (red-colored) and select menu Mask: Swap from shortcut list to swap masking. In this way, the unwanted points are masked and you can now perform any data analysis directly on the graph to obtain desired results.

Hope this is what you want.

Regards!

Sean
