I'm new to OriginLab, I'm using it for my bachelor thesis.
Unfortunately I'm never able to use the Non-Linear Curve Fitting. I'm able to open the dialog, I can choose any function in the dialog, but a fitting never happens. I already tried to fit a diagramm with the formula shown in the dialog, so it must be a "fittable" curve; anyhow nothing happens. In the messages tab, it says that the parameters aren't correctly initialised, eventhough they must be.
When I click Analysis --> Fitting --> Linear Fit or Polynomial Fit it works, but it is also a different dialog.
I'm really desperate and under time pressure, so I would be really thankfull if somebody would help me

Perhaps you could try to repair your installation and see whether it helps, following the steps below:
1.Close Origin(Pro) if it is open. 2. Click the Windows Start button and select Programs | OriginLab | Origin(Pro) 2018 | Origin(Pro) 2018 Add or Remove Files. This starts the InstallShield wizard. 3. Select Repair/Upgrade as goal and follow the instructions to repair. 4. Restart Origin and see if the problem is solved.

Posted - 09/03/2020 : 10:26:53 AM Hello there, I also have a recent problem with the non-linear curve fit.
Everytime I change anything in the data selection (adding additional curves or varying the range) the error "failed to find object during method call" appears. I still can fit one (but only one) curve and read out the fitted parameters in the dialogue window. However, a result window will not open. Instead, I get the same error again. When I do not change anything in the Data selection, the NLCF works without problems. I am currently using OriginPro 2018b9.5.1.195 64-bit on Windows 10 Pro. Did similiar problems occure to any of you?

As the Number of Points in the report sheet is shown 0, it seems the tool didn't receive any input data from the worksheet. I have no idea what happened, but maybe you can send your Origin file mentioning this forum post to our technical support line: tech@originlab.com .

Origin version: OriginPro 2018 (64-bit) b9.5.0.193 OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-bit)
I have been using the curve fitting tool for some time now. In the last few days, I have started to notice that the output of the polynomial fit is returning '0' values. I have attached screen shots of the report for reference. Another issue is, the 'Simple Fit' app is greyed out on the right panel. The odd thing is that this was working perfectly fine till about a week back. It's only now that the problem has come up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Origin once and the problem hasn't been rectified.
Please help!

Sounds to me now that the parameter initialization failed to be triggered for built-in functions so you have to manually enter them.
Could you check on Parameters tab, by default if "Auto Parameter Initialization" checkbox is checked?
Also, if you click P button (in middle panel), will parameter initializaiton code be executed so each parameter will be filled with initial value?
If you install to new folder and also choosing new User Files folder, everything should be clean so I am not sure why this happens either.

Posted - 05/12/2015 : 07:10:29 AM I finally found the solution to the problem. I'll write it here just for the case someone has the same problem.
Even after reinstallation, the curve fitting firstly didn't work, but now I was able to propose parameters in the Non-Linear Fitting Dialogue. Now the curve fitting was possible. It's still bizarre, in every other version of OriginLab (from my colleague, for example), it isn't necessary to enter parameters... but yeah. Finally, it works  |

I already asked the support service from the german distributor for help, I'll wait for their response before I'm going to uninstall it

Posted - 05/11/2015 : 1:48:54 PM Sorry. I am not sure what is causing this either. Many of our eval users can modify the eval version into a product and license and use it fine. You can choose Help: About Origin. Check if there are negative or 0 value showing in remaining time. If you didn't license product successfully or eval license has expired, Origin will not work properly.
Another thing you could try is uninstall it since our German distributor office must be closed Install it again to new EXE folder. Choose new User Files folder as well so everything is new. You don't need to license again since license info. is outside Origin folder.
If none works, please contact our German Distributor for help. They are very knowledgeable.

Posted - 05/11/2015 : 11:47:00 AM It never worked, but first, I thought it could be a restriction because I only had the demo version. But now, I do have the full version and it still doesn't work - and I really need it by now 
Unfortunately, it still doesn't work. I understood both instructions and was easily able to execute them but OriginLab still doesn't fit the example curve. I also restarted my PC, opened Origin Lab as Administrator.. but nothing seems to happen...
I'm also in contact with the german support from OriginLab, maybe it's a problem which occurs only in the german version? Or maybe it really could be because I had the demo version first and licensed it without installing it again? I have no idea anymore...

My feeling is the tool seems broken on your PC.

See if this can fix the issue?
Or from Windows Start button, choose All Programs: OriginLab: Origin 2015: Add or Remove Files. Choose the 2nd option to repair the program?

1) No built-in function works, it doesn't matter which one I choose. I even tried to fit clearly fittable data like 1,4,9, 16, 25, 36 (so x^2) with Allometric1 (a*x^b) from the Origin Basic Functions, and it still says that it doesn't work.
2)I tried both, and yes, I highlighted the data/the graph. I also tried with the Data Selection Page. here my example: A(X): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 B(X): 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100 Using: Allometric1 from Origin Basic Functions Selection Page Settings: [Graph1]1!1"B"
3) No, there aren't parameters showing. I also can enter b as 2, nothing happens.
4) When I click on the first iteration button at the example, following message is poping up: "(17) ----------Levenberg-Marquardt----------- Chi-Quadr Reduziert = 0 Iterationen durchgeführt = 0 Gesamte Iteration in der Sitzung = 0 (18) Fit hat nicht konvergiert - Parameter a,b sind nicht korrekt initialisiert. Bitte prüfen und Werte korrigieren." It means: Zero iterations. The fit didn't converged - the Paramaters a, b aren't correctly initialised.

Posted - 05/11/2015 : 09:49:50 AM 1. Could you let us know which function you are using? A built-in one or a fitting function you defined. From what you said it happens to any function. Could you try to change to some other function that matches the data?
2. What window is active before you open the Nonlinear Curve Fit dialog? If it's workbook, have you highlighted some data? If it's from graph window, are there some plots in graph? Or in Nonlinear Curve Fit dialog, could you select Settings tab. Then go to Data Selection page. Could you let us know what the Input Data is? You can copy the contents and paste it in reply.
3. Go to Parameters tab, what are the Value column showing? Any missing values? Make sure there are no missing values in Value column. Enter initial values which you know are correct?
4. Could you click the 1 Iteration button and see if new message are dumped or click Fit till converged button to see if fit converges. Note: When you mouse over buttons in middle panel of Nonlinear Curve Fit dialog, tooltip help shows so you can tell what each button is.

Even when I follow those instructions, I can't do a fit. When I choose a function in the Non-Linear Curve Fitting - Dialog, nothing happens, no iteration starts. When I click on "Messages", it simply says that the parameters aren't coerrectly initialised, even though they really should be... Did you ever hear about this problem before? |
