Origin Ver. 6.1 and V6.1052(B232)
Operating System: Windows

I have a number of experimental points and have plotted a best fit polynomial to these points. How can I show the error bars to this best fit curve ?

TIA

Hello,

You have very old version 6.1 so it's hard for us to see the GUI now in Origin since most of our PCs are newer Windows OS and 6.1 isn't compatible on it.

But I suppose you have a worksheet with all data in it.
E.g.
X1 Y1 Y2 Z1 X2 Y2b Y22 Z2 -- suppose these are names of your data (Z2 will be error bar of Y2b)
Make sure Z1 is immediately after Y1 column. Make sure Z2 is immediately after Y2b.
you right click X1 column header and choose Set as: X.
Right click X2 column header and choose Set as: X
Right click Z1 and choose Set as: Y Error.
Right click Z2 and choose Set as Y Error.

Then in graph, you can right click Layer 1 icon and choose Layer Contents...
In the dialog, you can move new data into graph. E.g. select Z2 on the left and click -> to move it to the right. It should be added as error bar of Y2b data.

Thanks, Snow

Thank you.

I have now plotted the measured points and error bars. But now how do I add the error bars to a second curve on the same plot ?

Fr eg.
The plot contains colns X1, Y1 - measured values
X1, Y2 - best fit curves
And error bar to column Y1 (say, Z1)

Now I have added columns X2, Y2b (second set of measurements) and X2, Y22 (best fit to this second set)
I want to add error bar to column Y2b.

Will someone please explain how this is done

Thank you in advance

Do you already have data for the error bars?

Anyway, please look at the page below for adding error bar to your graph, with or without data

Thank you for responding. My problem is as follows :
I have a number of experimental points, x- axis : time; y-axis : wt loss from erosion.
I have drawn a best fit curve through this. I now want to draw the error bars

TIA

Hi, TIA

Could you give more explanation for the error bar of the best fit curve?

Do you mean confidence band of the fitted curve?

Or do you mean you want to add residual values as error bar to the fitted curve?

Echo
