another how to do on the same subject: after I create my volcano plot I want to creat color mapping first in relation on to Y and after wards in relation to x on the same figure. I could not do it on one layer, do I need to have multiple layers for the same graphs?

Hi Tima,

This video will be helpful for you to see how to add plots into an existing graph. http://originlab.com/Index.aspx?go=Support/VideoTutorials&pid=1207

But just want to mention if you add the same xy data to existing graph again, they will cover the old data points. Then if u set the colormap to be based on x, then u will not be able to see the color based on Y.

Maybe you can have a screenshot of an example graph and data so we can take a look?

After map color to a column, E.g. Y or X, you can go to Colormap tab to change the level and color for each level. U can change the levels since in your example, the levels should be -5, -2, -1 1, 2, 5

Thanks, Snow

Hi Snow,

Thanks for your reply regardin different color mapping, I now have an idea on how to perform it but I still do not get what it means to "Drag Y data to the graph again" (step 1)?

Hi,

So I have a volcano plot and I need to do two steps color mapping. first I want to lable all entries that are below y=1 (e.g black) a different color than entries above y=1 (e.g red) . to do so, I click on color mapping, select y axis and do the labeling accordingly. this creates two colors plot horizontally.
afterwards, I want to do colormapping based on x axis. my x axis ranges from -5 to 5 (zero is in the middle). in the second step, I want to lable the area between -1 till 0 and 1 till zero (e.g black), then lable the "left arm" of the plot (-2 till -5) a different color than the "the right" arm (2 till 5).

Thanks!

Hello, Tima,

Could you explain further what you mean by first in relation on to Y and afterwards to X.

When you double click on a scatter plot to open Plot Details, you can see symbol tab. You can click the arrow next to Symbol Color to map the color to only one column.

If you want to map the same plot to another column. What you can do is add the same plot to graph again by
1. drag the Y data to graph again
2. double click Layer1 icon to open Layer contents to add the plot
4. right click Layer1 icon to open Plot Setup dialog to add the plot.

Then there will be two plot entries on left panel.
Select each of them and map their symbol colors.

Thanks, Snow
