Hi All

I am current wanted to import a 600+MB file to origin for data analysis, but this "out of memory" error comes out while loading it, is this because of the software unable to support such a huge amount of data?

Hi MooWeiChong,

Could you please try the 64-bit program of Origin to see how it goes? If you only have much older
version before the 64-bit program became available, you can try the latest version of Origin evaluation
version downloadable from: http://www.originlab.com/demodownload.aspx
Origin 64-bit program should be best suited for such big job.

Hi MooWeiChong,

You can find Origin's limitations at:
http://www.originlab.com/doc/Origin-Help/Origin-Limitation

As I have measured the file size with a worksheet of 2 columns, 10,000,000 rows - it was around 200MB. So, your 600MB file would have around 30,000,000 rows (if it has two columns). So, with a 32-bit Origin, theoretically you should be still able to handle your file as the above table is saying that the worksheet can hold 54,000,000 rows (in 32-bit version Origin); THOUGH your machine's available memory might have maxed out before reaching this Origin's limitation, and that is what I suspect.

So, I suggest you to run Origin's 64-bit program (which can handle 90,000,000 rows with 2 columns), if you are running 32-bit program. (Currently, even if you can have 30,000,000 rows in a worksheet, you even cannot copy the worksheet as it comes beyond the 54,000,000 rows limitation in 32-bit program - too tight.)
