I have to transfer large amounts of data from Excel files to Origin and then create plots of the data. I do this by copy/pasting from Excel into an Origin workbook. I need to do this several times a day for my work.
I have found that for some of the large data sets, this causes Origin (and sometimes Excel) to freeze for long periods of time (as long as 2 hours, though usually around 30 min). The block of data is typically 30000 rows and 20 to 40 columns. While copying, I've found Origin uses over a gigabit of RAM and maxes out my Disk. I've noticed it's less of a problem immediately after restarting my computer. This would lead me to believe RAM is an issue, but my computer has 4 gigs of it.
Why does this happen?
Are there any ways to speed up this process?
Would importing the Excel file be better? |

Yes, I believe that importing Excel file first into an Origin worksheet improves the performance. Could you please try?
