Operating System: windows xp, 32 bit
Hi,
I want to create a scatter plot with two types of labels. Label1 is gonna be represented by different colors and label2 with different marks. Also, I want to add the name of some of data points to them on the graph. Is there any way to do this?
For example, the dataset looks like the following; (X,Y, Label1, Label2, Name)
0.1 0.725 runoff, soluble, MCPA
0.1 0.73 domestic, degradable, BPA
0.1 0.76 industrial, absorbed, NPX
0.2 0.3 runoff, degradable, HCB
0.05 0.03 domestic, absorbed, ATN
.
.
.
It would appreciate every single recommendation.

Hey Azizi-
To create multiple sets of data with different symbols on the same graph, you can select the cells of one series of data, place your cursor to their right edge until it displays a graph icon, and then drag and drop your data series into the graph window in question.
Every time you drag and drop these cells to a graph you add a new plot to the active layer. Double clicking on these points will bring you to the Plot Details dialog where you can change their unique shapes and colors. In Plot Details, the Symbol Color and Size menus can be set to change with the categories/values of any column in your worksheet. If you check the Show Construction tickbox, the shape of your symbols can also be modified to correspond to different columns. Once you're satisfied with your symbols, a new legend can be created by right clicking on your graph window and selecting "enhanced legend".
In Origin 8, labels can be added each point by creating a column with your data's corresponding values or categories. Then right click on said column, and go to "Set As", "Label". This way when you plot it on your graph it will display whatever text is contained in these cells next to each respective point in the adjacent Y column. To edit the text formatting simply double click on a point and select the label plot in Plot Details. From there you can modify the typeface, color, and X/Y offset of these to properly display with your data.
