This may be a bit off-the-wall, but any help is appreciated. Text imported into a worksheet seems to be truncated to 24 characters in each cell, and I'd like to increase that limit by a byte or two. I've tried setting the column display width to 32 and the column type to "Text", but still run into the 24 character truncation. Any ideas? (Origin is an order of magnitude or two faster than Microsoft Word at sorting and reordering columns of text. In fact, if the number of rows (or paragraphs) gets up around 15,000 or so, Word can't handle a sort, whereas Origin just blasts right through it.)

Thanks.

Lorraine,

Thanks for your prompt attention to my query. I was out of town so I didn't see your reply until today. I also found that if I leave the column as "Text and numeric" rather than setting it to "Text", which seemed to be appropriate initially, then I can import >70 characters into each column, which is quite enough for my task.

OK with further investigation, we found this is a bug with fixed width. Will incorporate fix into Origin 7 SR4.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Is your ASCII file delimited or fixed width?

Hello!

I tried to reproduce this problem using Origin 7 (our latest version) but am unable to as I can import ASCII files with columns containing up to 52 characters (so far, have not yet found the maximum).

What version of Origin are you using?
