Hello
I am pretty new to use Origin. I am ploting a contout plot. I want to select spectrum from the colour palette. However I canot find in the list. Can anyone suggest me how to install spectrum palette or how to plot contour plot with spectrum color.

Hi Goita,
I am writing this on behalf of Snow. it seems that the difference of the two images from both Origin (using the
palette Snow has provided above) and in your SigmaPlot came from the following two reasons:
1) Number of levels in the palette: As the previous palette had only 26 levels. We have made a full fledged
256-color palette, and you can download this from:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69449127/FilesToUsers/Goita/Spectrum_Origin.PAL
2) You need to set up the total number of levels enough large, say 256 to take advantage of the palette resolution.
As far as I tried, setting the major # of levels to 8, and the minor # of levels to 32 (thus, total 8x32=256 levels)
can make a sample contour plot (e.g, using the sample data in Origin's sample data at:
<Your Origin Program Folder>\Samples\Matrix Conversion and Gridding\3D XYZ.dat ). I could make a very nice
and smooth contour plot similar to your SigmaPlot sample.
So, please download the new Origin palette from the link, and try it. We will include this palette in the new Origin release.
Hope this gives you a path to accomplish what you wanted in Origin.

Hello Snow,
Please find the attached pic. I try the steps you suggest. However changing the minor lines didn't affect the property of the spectrum. In other types of color plattes, forexample Rainbow, I can control the picture with minor lines. However, with Spectrum I cannot change the picture with minor lines.

Hi Goita,
Without seeing your graph, it's hard to see how to adjust to make it exactly the same as sigmaplot.
But you can adjust major and minor levels in contour plot and what lines to show on contour.
Here are the steps:
Double click in contour plot to open Plot Details.
On Colormap/Contours tab, click on "Level..." (the column header)
-->Set Levels dialog will open.
You can set level from and to, increment, or major and minor levels, etc.
Click Ok to go back to the Plot Details dialog and click Apply to see the effect.
And you can freely control which line to show on the contour.
Click on Line... column header on On Colormap/Contours tab.
--> Contour Lines... dialog will open.
By default it only shows on Major levels Only.
You can uncheck it and then choose Hideo All. Or just click Ok to close the dialog and then in Plot Details dialog, click checkboxes in Line column to pick where you want to show line.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your detail replay. I have followed the steps you mention and successfully install the spectrum palette. However, I have a problem with the resolution.
The sigmaplot pic is drawn with 20 minor lines in the contor. In Origin, whatever minor lines I put I cannot get a best resolution with the colors.
Do you have any idea how can I reduce the minor intervals and get similar plot with sigma plot.

Hello,
Could you let me know which version of Origin you are using? In Origin 2017 sr1, we added more built-in palettes which may fit your other needs.
We don't have matching spectrum color palette as SigmaPlot but I made one with our Color Editor App http://originlab.com/fileExchange/details.aspx?fid=317
since in SigmaPlot the spectrum palette is just a list of 26 colors.
1. Please download the palette https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69449127/FilesToUsers/Goita/spectrum_sigmaplot.PAL
2. Put it to Origin's \User Files\PALETTES\ folder.
Note: You can choose Tools: Options menu. Go to System Path tab to find where your User Files folder is.
If No Palettes folder exist, you need to create it manually.
3. Now after plot contour graph, click on the contour plot to select it. There will be a dot in center of the layer.
4. Click Palette dropdown list from Style toolbar, which is on upper side of Origin workspace.
5. Pick spectrum_sigmaplot.

Thanks for your answer. I try to follow your email. However, I cant get the exact color resolution. I am attaching a pic of my plot using sigma plot and originlab. In the sigmaplot i use Spectrum for my color palette. However, I cant find Spectrum color palette in origin.
