I have xyz data which I transpose into a random matrix - and I can generate my 3d contour map surface..no problems.. the question is, does anyone have any idea how i can return back values for the contours in a data format? (i.e. more data for xyx back than what i used to generate the contour?)

If I read you correctly, it sounds as though you would like to generate the XY data that are used to "draw" the contours of your contour plot. If this is the case, I would say that your best bet would be to get the digitizer tool -- available from the File Exchange page of the OriginLab website -- and use it to trace the contours manually.

Hopefully, you don't have too many contours

Have you tried Edit->Convert to Worksheet->XYZ Columns?
