I recently tried using the data reader button on my Origin 7.5 install, and its being very strange! No matter what data point in the scatter graph I click, it will always jump to the position on the graph where row 22 is plotted from the worksheet.

Is there anything I may have set up that could explain this problem? Its a pretty big labtalk script that plots multiple graphs and collects stats etc.

Thanks for any help.

Laurence

Hi,

I tried the suggestions and they didnt work. I also installed service pack 2 to make sure it wasnt a bug that had been fixed.

In more details I am trying to click on a data point in a graph that is generated by a script file. This script file also generated about 4 different graphs and a report after this initial plot.

I decided to check to see if it was because the X column was set to a Y during another plot on the same data, I got the same problem though.

Out of interest I decided to replot the same data after generating the report with graphs using my script, then tried to use the data reader on the new graph, and it worked! I then selected the original plot, and the data reader worked on this one too!! I have done this a few times now and it always works after replotting the same data into a new graph!

Any more ideas or is this a job for support?

Thanks, Laurence

Hi Laurence,

There are a couple of possible remedies for your problem:

1. Select your X column and sort your worksheet (Analysis:Sort Worksheet).
2. Defeat the Data Reader's Bisection Search Points mechanism by entering a number that exceeds the number of data points that you have into the Bisection Search Points combo box in the Options dialog box, on the Miscellaneous tab (Tools:Options).

This is covered in the Origin Help file topic Analysis:Basics>Data Exploration Tools > The Data Reader Tool > A Note on Improving the Data Point Search Behavior of the Data Display Tool.

If you are still having problems, we may need to have you contact technical support. I hope this helps.

Mike
