I made a few changes in the legend label, selecting the
"black line" as the border and reducing the margin by clicking
the mouse at the corner of the border when "||" prompted up.
The problem is that whenever I click print or copy page, the
border of the legend expands automatically with much margin that
I don't want it. Is there anyway to fix the border?
Thanks.

Sylvia, you have a very stubborn problem -- one that would be best handled by contacting your Origin technical support representative. You will find contact information on our Distributors page.

When you contact Support, please have your Origin serial number ready and point to this forum exchange. They should be able to help you resolve this.

Hi Mike,
thank you for the support.
It's true that in Origin.ini I had value 1 for AddEMFInCopyPage, but repairing it to 0 and saving brought no effect.
The second method was with the same result.

I would suggest two possible fixes:

Fix #1

1. Close Origin. Open Windows Explorer, browse to the Origin program folder and locate "ORIGIN.INI".
2. Open this file in a text editor such as Notepad.
3. Choose Edit:Find and find this entry:

AddEMFInCopyPage

4. Make sure that AddEMFInCopyPage=0 and save the file.
5. Run Origin and see whether this resolves your problem.

Fix #2 -- if Fix#1 doesn't work

1. Save your Origin graph as an OGG file (with the window active, choose File:Save Window As and give the graph a name).
2. Open your Word doc and select Insert:Object. This opens the Object dialog box.
3. Select the Create from File tab.
4. Browse to your saved OGG file and click OK.
5. Click OK.
Your graph will display as an object in your Word doc.

I hope one of these fixes resolves your problem. Good luck!

Well, when I tried this but the graph in OLE has normal look. When I closed it and returned to Word, it stayed enlarged.

Hi Sylvia,

Some Origin 6 users found that when they did an OLE edit of in inserted Origin graph in MS PowerPoint, the graph greatly enlarged upon exiting Origin. But that doesn't sound like your problem.

I would not advise re-installing the Origin software; it won't likely change anything. If you are inserting the graph into MS Word or PowerPoint, trying doing an OLE edit of the inserted graph (double-click on the graph in your receiving application; this should launch Origin). Then try a couple of things:

Do the legend and the axis titles still look enlarged in Origin?
If so, what happens if you shrink them, then return to the receiving application?

I have a similar problem than louwee. When I can to copy page with graph to another program (Word, Powerpoint), the legend and also axis titles expand. I have Origin 6.0. Should I update or reinstall my Origin?
Thank you.

Hi louwee:

I tried to reproduce this with Origin 7 SR1 and could not. But this should not be happening so I'm going to say, Yes, there is a way to correct this, but we may need to do some further investigation.

I would suggest that you first apply the Origin 7 SR4 patch. If this doesn't fix the problem for you, I would contact OriginLab's tech support dept. (I am assuming that you are not in Albania as the forum reports but rather in Raleigh NC) -- either by e-mail or by phone. If you can furnish a copy of the Origin graph or OPJ in which you see the problem, that would be helpful. Then, they can try to reproduce the problem here.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for the message. I am using 7.0 SR1.
I will try to download the SR4 version.
But is there anyway to correct this in 7.0?
Thank you very much.

louwee, I gather that what you did was to resize the legend background when you were in "background resize" mode?

I played with this a bit more to try to figure out what you are seeing and I did find that my Origin 7 SR0 installation did resize the legend background when I did a Copy Page, but I saw just the opposite behavior -- if I made the legend background larger than it needed to be, then selected Edit:Copy Page, the background shrank. I couldn't produce the same behavior with Origin 7 SR4, so make sure that you are using the latest service release if you are using Origin 7. The legend settings on the Legend tab in Plot Details -- Auto Update, Full Data Set Name -- didn't seem to have any effect on this one way or the other.

This is all I could come up with.

Hi louwee,

I tried to reproduce this problem, but could not. What version of Origin are you using and what is your operating system, please?
