Is it possible to use Origin 7.5 to do
random XYZ matrix contour plot?

Please let me know. Thank you very much

Hi Macland,

What the gridding process does is to compute Z values at regularly spaced X, Y values, based on your data. So you may not necessarily get Z values generated at the same x,y points as in your original data.

I suggest plotting the XYZ as scatter and then the matrix as a surface, in the same plot, to see how the computed matrix surface looks in comparison to your raw data. This is the default plot that the random gridding tool shows anyway.

Thank you very much. I got it.
When I did this, the Z value changed.
Does the Z suppose to change after griding?

Hi Macland,

In order to create a contour plot you need to have a matrix that is regularly spaced in X and Y.

So if you have random XYZ data (where X, Y spacing is not regular), you need to first grid your random data to create a matrix object. Use the "Edit->Convert to Matrix" menu and then select "Ranxom XYZ.." and select one of the gridding methods offered in the dialog that comes up.
