Hi all,
At AZ, Alderley Park, UK we have had a server client set up for Origin for a number of years (primarily 6.0 and 6.1). The most recent version 7.5 (SR4) is regarded as a huge improvement and there are a number of benefits affecting our distribution / set up (as well of course as the general functional enhancements used by all).
I would be very interested in sharing experiences of the server client set up and possibly describe some of our applications. If there is enough interest I could write up a 'case study' of some sorts and would also be keen to know of other experiences with a server client set up.
Let me know...!
Cheers,
pete

In regard to my comment above about working with Pete by email ... I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from discussing their experiences with server | clients, and management and distribution issues in this forum thread.
Please do post here, as this is a good venue for Origin users to share experiences like this.

Posted - 10/05/2004 : 12:04:07 PM Hi Pete,
We're glad to hear the 7.5 customization and distribution has worked well for you! ---- For those not familiar with the Origin group license, it provides Origin management and distribution options for the System Administrator, such as: 1. Setting up three FLEXlm redundant license servers, if requested. 2. Restricting Origin usage with a FLEXlm options file. 3. Installing with a choice of two models: stand-alone group members or the server | clients model. The server | clients model allows the system admin to only patch the server and clients are auto updated. Also, it allows for some sharing of modified files with all clients. The stand-alone model supports license borrowing (disconnecting from the network and still running Origin). 4. Distributing Origin using InstallShield silent install, by copying an installation to user computers, and other distribution methods. Such distribution methods can allow you to pre-set a User Files Folder, or even pre-register in the case of distributing an Origin client. ---- Pete, we are very interested in working with you on a case study. Such a write up could definitely benefit other Origin users interested in such applications. We'll follow up with you by email on this idea.
Thanks! Barb
