I want to colour-code the data points in my plot according to they order they appear in the data sheet, to indicate by sight which the first values were and so on.
I think I can do this using the Increment option in the format>plot menu, but I have hundreds of data points in some graphs and the colour palette will not accept more than 40 colours (even if some are the same colour). It just colours the first 40 (or 24 if you use the default palette) points then starts with the first colour again, but this means you can't distinguish the points from each other.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? Please?!!
Or do you know of other graphical software that might allow me to do this?

Hi,
You can assign a color map to your symbols based on values in (another) column. To do this, open Plot Details (by say double-clicking on a point), then go to the Symbol tab on the right side, and then under Symbol color, pick Color Mapping and then point to a data column that should be used for the mapping. To customize the number of levels and the colors used, you can then click on the Color Map tab of the Plot Details dialog to specify your levels and the color range to be used etc. Once you do this, you can then go to the Graph menu and select New Color Scale to place a color scale object on the graph, that shows what color goes with what value etc.
Now, in your case, my understanding is that you have two columns of data: X,Y and you want to color the points corresponding to the Y column using the values in the X column. Currently the color mapping fly-out only allows you to pick a Y column. So you will have to create another Y column to which you copy the values of your X and then use that new column as the souce for your color map.
