Hello,

I got a problem with the creation of a diagram.

The left picture shows, how the diagram looks like at the moment. I want to change the colour of the Groups A-C and use the hatching for the discription 1 and 2.

I hope you understand, what i trying to do. Perhaps you can tell me how to do it.

Many thanks in advance.

Marcel

Hi,

There two reasons why this is not working.

1) Your pattern and color are not indexed to a specific column. You selected By Points -> Custom increment, rather than indexed to column (B).

For pattern you have selected is By Plot which again is not indexed to a column.

2) When you select group plot, you are grouping ABC and 1d2d3d, but you are not grouping 1,2 which makes creating a legend difficult.

Method:

I first reorganize your worksheet, make sure column B and C are set to category:

I select column D -> Select Plot -> Column (not Group Plot)

Then double click the x-axis to open the X-axis dialog box. Select Tick Labels. Select Table tab/ Select Enable. Select 2 for Number of Rows. Select Apply.

Then Select Bottom 2 -> Select Tick Labels -> Select Display -> Make sure for dataset you select column B.

Close the axis dialog. Double click the Graph to open the Plot Details dialog. Select Pattern -> Select Fill Color -> Select By Points -> Select Indexing -> Select Col(B). (You may need to change the color in the color list tab).

Next Select the Pattern tab -> select By Points -> Select col(C)

I then insert a legend. I right click the legend, if needed select categorical values. I select Properties to open the Text Object - Legend dialog box. I then changed a little bit of the text so that it appears what I thought makes sense.

Hey, i tried everything, but i dont get the categories.

Could you perhaps look at the data if i created it the right way?

Hi,

To use the categorical values in the legend, you must define categories which are added to the indexing column. If the columns are not indexed, then the categorical values will be greyed.

http://www.originlab.com/doc/Origin-Help/Legend-CateData

The simplest way to do this use to plot with a Group Plot.
Another way is to set categories in each column worksheet and select customize categories in the Categories dialog box.

If i try to click on "Legend -> Categorical Values", i can not select "Categorical Values" (it is Grey). Perhaps you know, what to do?

Hi to show both fill color and pattern, right click the legend and Select Legend -> Select Categorical Values.

This will open the Graph:legendcat dialog box. Then select Fill Color and Fill Pattern. Select Apply.

Hello, thanks for you answer.

Now the diagram looks like that:

So everything is fine now with the exeption of the legend. I need the legend without the background colour. Moreover i Need a legend with the ABC Colour too.

Thanks :)

Hi,

Here is a tutorial that should help.
http://www.originlab.com/doc/Origin-Help/grouped-column-index-data
http://www.originlab.com/doc/Tutorials/CroupedColumn-ErrBar-Label

You can set the pattern and fill color to index a column.

Thanks
