Hello, all

I just run into an issue that has been growing some grey hairs to me ...

Having a graphics page, layouted and finished for presentation I forgot a little checkbox option to turn off and I get tiny little BMP/WMF bitmaps by exporting my graphpage.

The goal was to plot a time series (data from 0 to 10 [s]) e.g. a section from 3[s] - 4[s]. Now I made the mistake to set the checkbox for adding the zero line at x=0 (in the grid dialog option tab). The line was displayed but never shown on any view I selected (print, page, draft ....). Exporting that graphicpage leads to an ugly distorted bitmap with a line at the left side.

So, it was a very hard job to figure out, that the line was not a lost element listed by the command "list -o".

So, would it be possible to give the user a hint, that displayed elements may be exported that are far away from the viewed rectangle. And a second nice feature would be to get a hint what kind of element this object is, so you can correct the error in an easy way?! Luxury would be to directly get to the option or an element list, where you can correct (or further examine) the detected error.

Thanks
Hajo

Hello, Mike

you are right, there's realy something mentioned (the whole matter I've to agree) in the help file. So you are realy in advantage if you are able to read!! (my fault ...) Maybe you nevertheless can give some attention box before export ...

So, thanks for the bottle of Grecian Formula, you'll find my address in my license entry ....

Thanks so far
Hajo

Hi Hajo,

I see what you did, and, yes, I'll bet it did give you some gray hair. I have to confess that I never knew that this check box created an actual Origin object; I've never used it.

For the benefit of others reading this post, the general issue here --one that you seem to have suspected -- is that you had an object that was outside the graph page. When you exported the graph, Origin exported everything in the graph window, the line at x=0 included. The effect was to shrink you graph and to show the vertical line at some distance from your graph.

I thought that we used to have a k-base item on this, but I don't seem to be able to find one. There is a note in your Help file, under the topic Setting Your Preferences>Setting Your Preferences with the Options Dialog Box>Reference Section: The Options Dialog Box>Copy/Export Page Settings Group>The Margin Control Drop-Down List but admittedly, it isn't likely that you would have found that. So, it sounds like we need to discuss this and figure out how to help users avoid this one.

Also, for future reference, you can "fix" this problem by setting the Margin Control Drop-Down List to Page. This limits export to objects that appear on the graph page.

Sorry for the gray hairs. We'll send out a complimentary bottle of Grecian Formula.

Mike
