Hello,

I am trying to change the size (and sometimes the shading or color) of symbols of some data points within a single XY scatter dataset. Is there a simple way to handle this without splitting the dataset into multiple sets? Thanks. Your help is much appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Thank you. The first tip worked very well for what I needed.

Hi Vijay,

Here are a a couple of options for you:
  • To customize individual data points, hold the CTRL key and double-click on a point in your graph.
  • To set symbol color, shape, and interior using the values in a dataset (in your case, your Y column data could supply the values), select Format:Plot. On the Symbol tab, click the Symbol Color button > Indexing > Col(B) (or whatever). Note that you can further customize the plot symbols by selecting the Show Construction check box (which presents you with another group of controls). While you have the Plot Details Symbol tab open, press the F1 key for more information.

Also, see this Help file topic (Help:Origin):
The Graph: Customizing > Controlling the Display of the Data Plot > Customizing the Colors in Your Data Plot > Using Values in a Data Set to Control Data Plot Color

Hope this helps.
