Hi gopalakrishnan,

I may have been wrong when I said that installing CorelDraw shouldn't have affected Origin's use of the Symbol font. If this program installed a pile of fonts -- and there is a good chance that a drawing/illustrating program would do that -- it is possible that you are seeing an old problem that I had forgotten about.

At one time some years back, we had several customer reports of problems using the Greek (Symbol) font in Origin and we finally realized that on some systems -- not all -- Origin seemed to have a limit as to the number of fonts that it could use; past some point, the font would not change even though the drop-down lists in Origin indicated otherwise.

In the end, we came up with two possible workarounds:
  • Uninstall unnecessary fonts until you see that Origin is using the Symbol font properly.
  • Use a font-creation software to rename a copy of the Symbol font as something like "Afont" -- which would put it at the top of your font list in Origin.

Here are a couple of old forum posts that may help you: http://www.originlab.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1773

Hope this helps.

Hi gopalakrishnan,

Make sure that your Windows Fonts folder contains the True Type Symbol font. Also, open the Options dialog box(Tools:Options), go to the Text Fonts tab and and verify that the Greek drop-down says TT Symbol (if it does not, change it).

I don't know why installing CorelDraw should cause any problems with this.
