Until yesterday Origin worked fine with MS Excel. Then suddenly it began freezing. Origin now freezes whenever I open any file that contains an excel worksheet. To reproduce: 1. Start Origin 2. Create a new excel spreadsheet 3. Put in some data and create a graph 4. Save the project 5. Close the project and reopen it. Origin freezes.
Clues: -When origin freezes CPU utilization stays at about 100% indefinitely -Once this happens, if I kill Origin and restart it, it is no longer able to create new spreadsheets - they just appear as blank windows. -Once a freeze occurs it becomes very difficult to shut down the machine. Anytime I try to log out or shutdown I get a window that says "Cannot quit Microsoft Excel". Click ok and nothing happens.
Any idea what could be causing this? |

Posted - 03/15/2005 : 1:44:50 PM Sorry, Chris, I should have been more specific:
Did you, by any chance, patch your MS OfficeXP software?
The reason I am asking is that we had a few Origin 7 users report problems opening Excel workbooks after patching their OfficeXP software (Excel, Word, etc.) with Service Pack 2 (OS must also be XP, which I see is the case). I suspect that you may be experiencing the same problem, but it would only seem to make sense if you had recently patched your OfficeXP software.
With a problem like this, you should contact OriginLab Tech Support directly (tech@originlab.com). Include your Serial Number in your e-mail and point to this forum post.
Thanks.

Posted - 03/15/2005 : 11:52:57 AM Hi Mike,
My Excel data is stored in the OPJ file.
After the problem appeared I downloaded and installed the latest patches, hoping that would fix the problem (it didn't).

Hi cbutson,
A couple of questions:
Is your Excel data stored with the OPJ or is it saved externally? Did you just install or upgrade software?
