Is there any way to turn of the auto speed mode that origin does? -
I know how to turn it off normally, but when I plot any dataset larger than 1500 columns (from a matrix, contour plot, 2000 columns x 100 rows) but the watermark is still there and there is obviously data massing, even though the speed mode options are off. 20000 data points doesn't seem obscenely large to me..... |

This problem that you are facing with color contour plots - not being able to turn off speed mode - occurs currently when the number of rows/cols is much different from the number of cols/rows, and/or the resolution is very different in one of the dimensions.
There is a system variable that you can adjust: Bring up the script window and type @LF= The default value will be 2500.
Try setting this value to something lower such as @LF=1000 and then try turning off speed mode from Plot Details.
If this above does not help, please contact tech support and send them your OPJ with your data.

...That seems to work for gray-scale maps and B/W contours but not for color contours.

If you make a matrix with more than 1500 columns, then plot it as a contour plot, it turns on speed mode (big surprise...). If you go the layer options, and turn off the speed mode options, origin still does not plot all of the data points, and it still displays the speed mode watermark (yes, I can turn that off too, but there is still the problem it is not showing all the data).
On this plot, I can change the axes so it is only showing part of the data, and it behaves like speed mode is properly turned off, but when you put the scale back up to include all of the data, it behaves as if speed mode is in, even though the options for it are off.
Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks to me like it is some built in 'feature' with origin, that maybe it simply cannot display that many points (but as I said, 20000 points doesn't seem excessive to me, I could probably even do that in Excel (but that's not the point.)). |

Posted - 03/26/2005 : 3:52:08 PM Here's how to turn speed mode off for all new contour plots...
1. With a contour plot active select Format > Layer > Size/Speed tab. 2. Uncheck the Speed Mode options for matrices and close dialog w/OK. 3. Right click on the plot's title bar and select Save Template.
