Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): OriginPro 2016
Operating System: Windows

Dear all,
I would like to make a parallel plot like the one with the Fisher'sIris Data --> The parallel plot (a.k.a. parallel coordinates plot) provides an effective graphical summary of a multivariate data set. This particular plot uses Fisher's Iris data to depict size variation in four flower parts among three species. The plot shows that Sepal Length and Width are less characteristic of a particular species whereas Petal Length and Width are fairly characteristic.

I never found the tutorial to make it.
Could somone help me how to proceed to make such kind of parallel plot?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Memeye

In Origin 2017 or 2018, you can plot the graph with these steps
1. Highlight the columns which are used to plot graph, choose "Analysis: Mathematics: Normalize Columns" Thus we normalize the column to the same scale.
2. Highlight the nomalized columns, choose menu "Plot > 2D: Line + Symbol: Line Series" to plot the graph
3. Do further customization such as differentiating the lines by Species and adding vertical reference lines on each variable.
Then you can get a graph as below

However, we improve this a lot in our next version 2018b. Parallel Plots are added as a new graph type in that version. In 2018b , it would be very easy to plot such graph
1. Highlight the columns which are used to plot graph, choose menu "Plot > 2D: Parallel Plot: Parallel Sets"
Then you can get a graph as below

You can further customize the graph by double click on graph to open Plot Details dialog such as image below

Origin 2018b improve the feature a lot, we can plot different type of Parallel Plot such as below

Dear all,
thanks for the reply. I install now the 2017 version.
You mention :it can be constructed as a "boxless box chart" with connected data points.
How ? Could you give me a tutorial ?
Regards

Hi Memeye,

Sorry, the Parallel Plot is not available by Origin 2016. But, since Origin 2017, it can be constructed
as a "boxless box chart" with connected data points. You can try it by downloading Origin 2018 Evaluation
version from https://www.originlab.com/demodownload.aspx , open the Origin Central panel (F11), and
choose "Line & Symbol Graphs" category in the Graph Samples there. You can find the sample, and instructions
how you can construct.
Because this procedure involves normalization, and a bit complicated, OriginLab is considering to provide
a more straightforward built-in Parallel Plot graph type in the next version.
