Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 6
Operating System: XP

I'm merging two graphs, as two layers, which have different x-axes.
I go to:
FORMAT:LAYER:
and select Layer 2, Link to Layer1,
and select x-axis link 1-to-1;

this seems to ALMOST work ok, but the x-axes are not EXACTLY ALIGNED - by eye I would say about 5-10% wrong.

I've tried FORMAT: SNAP AXIS TO GRID, but this didn't help, although I wasn't sure if the order of doing the various actions matters.

To make it look better I've deleted the axis markers and labels on one of the layers, but obviously that's not the right way to do it.

any suggestions for what I'm missing?

Hi hughgriffiths:

It sounds like you've done what you should have, but I've seen plenty of instances where the merged graph needed some tweaking. Usually, problems occur in one of two places:
  • Go into Plot Details (Format:Layer) and verify that the Layer Area dimensions are exactly the same for Layer1 and Layer2.
  • More likely, the problem is with some small variation in the Axis Scale From/To/Increment/etc. settings. Make sure that they are the same for Layer1 and Layer2 (activate the layer by clicking the layer icon in the upper left corner of the graph window, then choose Format:Axes > Scale tab.
