I have Origin 2016. I want to make a scatter plot with before and after results. My sample contains several devices, which I would like to identify by different shapes on the scatter plot. Then I want to plot the same devices that were tested again at a later time. So each device in the later time must have the same data point shape to identify it as in the first test. However, the two main sets of before and after should be identified by different colors.

Here is a hand-drawn example of what I want:

How do I achieve this? Thanks!

Oh, actually, never mind! I figured it out. I had the first row of my workbook entirely blank. (Because that corresponds to a missing data point.) Once I put in a letter (or number) in the Shapes column, the colored symbol appeared in the legend.

Oh, interesting! I'm still having just one problem, though: the legend is showing blank spaces by the labels instead of having colored blocks like in your example.

How do I fix that?

Hi,

I am not sure your data struture. So I similar a dataset and plot a graph as an sample.

If you dataset like the following sample, highlight XYXY columns to plot the 2D Scatter plot. And then, double click the graph to open the "Plot Details" dialog. In the "Group" tab, set "Symbol Type" increment to "None". (Plesae note, these two scatter plots are grouped.)
And then go to "Symbol" tab, select the column in the "Shape" drop-down list to control the point's shape. Then you will see the graph as this sample.
