I have data from 3 groups pooled into one worksheet (Label, X, Y, Yerr). I'd like to produce the bar plot with bars of 3 differnt colors.
I usually produce a single bar plot and change the colors of individual columns, it is fine with me. But then I can't generate the legend -- the color bar in the legend has only the base color.
How can I overcome this problem?

Create two empty Y columns (E and F in Data2) and add them to the plot. Then select Graph > New Legend and adjust the plot colors and legend text.
...Column D is used to index the fill colors in col B. (You don't have to do it manually.)

I need the following graph:
in this graph I manually changed the colors of all columns --> I can't get the legend.
Is there a way to get legend for customly colored columns?

Hi Alexander,
Not sure this is exactly what you want, but you can use multiple X axes to group your data as shown in Data2. Then select the entire worksheet and create a bar plot like Graph1.

I have 3 columns of Data in my worksheet:

0.2% 0.20345 0.08572
1% 0.17394 0.08989
2% 0.33923 0.00852
5% 0.37789 0.0285
20% 0.16507 0.06993
The data in these 3 columns represent experimental data from 3 differrent substances, applied in different concentration, so there are basically three groups here:
---- 1st group ------
0.2% 0.19851 0.09534
2% 0.20019 0.08379
20% 0.20534 0.0679
---- 2nd group ------
0.2% 0.2893 0.00895
2% 0.26571 0.12146
20% 0.35783 0.02742
---- 3rd group ------
0.2% 0.20345 0.08572
1% 0.17394 0.08989
2% 0.33923 0.00852
5% 0.37789 0.0285
20% 0.16507 0.06993
I want to plot these data as bar plot, where every group has its own color. Should I somehow rearrange the data? The problem ist the 3rd group, there I have more concentrations and can't pool data in 3 columns :(

Hi Alexander:
It isn't clear to me how you have your data arranged in the worksheet. Normally, when we speak of a "group" in Origin, we refer to multiple Y datasets plotted against a single X dataset -- in which case color will automatically increment by dataset. Also, the legend should automatically register each dataset in the "group."
Perhaps I misunderstood what you are trying to do?
