Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 5.0
Operating System: Windows XP Professional

I used to be able to copy a layer from a graph window (click on axis, then ctrl-C) and paste in windows applications (Powerpoint). Now I cannot do it, the windows clipboard says "Item not Collected. Format not supported by Office clipboard".
I can still copy layers between different graph windows in Origin and between different Origin windows. I also can copy/paste the whole page (Edit -> Copy Page)

that is not my experience. until very recently, I was able to copy a layer with ctrl-c and then paste in Powerpoint. Then if I doble-clicked on the graph in powerpoint the plot would be opened in origin and I could edit it, then upon closing the Origin the changes would be visible in Powerpoint. but somehow I can't copy a layer anymore...

No version of Origin supported copying a layer to an external application as you describe.
