Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 7.5 SR5
Operating System: XP

Hi all,

I just would like to repeat the as yet unanswered question of Forum Moderator asked 08/14/1998:

Is it possible to import VAMAS files into Origin? Since the VAMAS format is very close to the ISO standard, more and measurement software uses this format.
What about *.xml files? I've just seen a software which outputs the spectra in this format.

Hi Neil,
it would be great if you can send me your importfilter. I searched since months for something like that!

Hi Neil,

It would be great if you can share your filter with others.
Please note that you can share files with other users on our File Exchange website:
http://www.originlab.com/fileexchange/index.aspx

Thanks,

Hi,
I have a VAMAS import filter that I wrote. I haven't tested it on the entire range of possible files but it works for everything that I havetested it on.

Hi Easwar,

I also have to look after the description of Vamas. Unfortunately I could not find any clue on www.vamas.org. I know it is very close to the ISO 14976 format. I try to send you a not so new sample file with vma extension. Tomorrow I can send you a brand new one with vms extension.

Regards,
Oszko

Hi Oszkoa,

If the format is published, it is always possible to write an import filter for that specific format.

Can you point to a web site/document that describes VAMAS format? I did a quick search and did not find such a page...perhaps if you know you could post here or send us an e-mail.

As for XML, Origin C in version 7.5 supports tree object and XML file can then be directly loaded into a tree. See this post for example:
