Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 2020b
Operating System: Windows 10

Hi, I have an issue with column values when the columns are narrower than the complete value written in it.

In my image I show a column with values, that have 5 whole numbers and 5 decimals (e.g. 46710,37813). When I resize the column, I get a number with 10 whole numbers (e.g., 4.67E+09).

Why does this happen? To me it renders the number unreadable, since it should have 5 whole numbers and not 10! I can basically work around this by having super wide columns, but it is a bit unwieldy with large datasets.

Just to clarify, I am using comma (,) as decimal separator.

Hi,

This bug is fixed in upcoming Origin 2021. In Origin 2020b, you can go to Worksheet properties dialog, under Format tab, change Ellipsis to ... for example.

Looks like a display bug for comma decimal separator case, indeed.
But it is just display... you can double click to see the actual value inside the cell.
