Hi all,
I recently found myself working with Heatmaps quite a lot.
Now as I usually wrap up my graphs for reports in MS Word, I have always been using the .emf-export function for generating graphs. In the case of Heatmaps (and other "Map"-Graphs) this is no longer feasible, because each data point of the map will be vectorized and the resulting image will be large in size (>50 MB).
So here is my proped feature:
Most vector formats (e.g., emf) allow one to include bitmaps inside of the vector image file. It would be nice if we had an option (preferably in the layer menu) to disable vector input for a certain layer/dataset.
Take the following examplary graph page:
The best export method for such graphs (IMO) would be to export a vector image for panel (a), but have the heatmap-data in panel (b) included as a bitmap.
In fact, such "combined" bitmap/vector files are already possible in OriginPro, if you "import" a bitmap image into a graph page and then export it in a vector format.
Current workaround:
- Export the heatmap as bitmap image.
- Import bitmap into the original graph page and position on axes.
- Disable display of the "real" heatmap.
- Export as vector image (e.g., emf).
I think such feature would significantly improve the quality of image export functions in OriginPro, not to say it would also spare us lots of time exporting graphs.
