How to select some data points in the box to add the annotation once, instead of commenting one by one through annotation button

That's weird.

Do you get any error message when launching Origin.
How about follow
https://www.originlab.com/doc/Quick-Help/System-Folder-Build-Failed

to reset User Files Folder, etc. and repair Origin?

Thanks, Snow

Hello Snow, I have the same version of Amin (OriginPro 2022 SR1 9.9.0.225). Actually never worked since I use the software I don't know why.

Thank you for replying.

In older versions, not all objects supports mini toolbars.

Also, please restart Origin to try again in case there is a glitch.

Hi Amin, did you manage to fix the issue with the mini toolbar? I'm facing the same problem - the mini toolbar is activated but I can't see it.

Does MINI TOOLBAR work for OriginPro 2022 9.9.0.225 ??
It doesn't work for me. I mean, when I select an object (e.g. a point on a graph) by left click, the mini toolbar does not appear. It is active in View: Mini Toolbar. I'm surprised.
Any help please.
Thanks
Amin

Hello,
Could you clarify what object did u choose: a data point of a plot or an graphic object e.g. a shape u added in graph?

If it's a data point of a plot, which plot type?

Shift key is used to bring up mini toolbar of clicked object. So after single click on point, could you try pressing Shift key and check if mini toolbar shows.

Mini toolbar begins in Origin 2022 but may not work on all elements and we kept on adding it to more places (e.g. including worksheet) in each versions.
https://www.originlab.com/doc/en/Origin-Help/Mini-Toolbar is based on latest version (Origin 2023b)

Thanks, Snow

hi,
I got it,

Then using custom display #+### with K as prefix should work.

The original image shows tick label e.g. 600 but bottom one shows K5+600. That's why we also added formula x+5000

Thanks, Snow

hi Snow,
First of all, I appreciate your help.
about data label, I finish it with the annotation toolbar button, it is very convenient.
about the bottom string, the formula is very useful for me.

Yes, k5 does have a special meaning in my field, k is short for kilometer, it's a distance unit, 5 stands for 5,000. So if the distance is more than 5 kilometers, we call it K5.Then the numbers after + means show hundreds part only. Similarly, if the number is 2,400, write it as k2+ 400.

thanks,
David
snowli Posted - 05/25/2022 : 09:56:55 AM
Also, what is this K5+xxx notation called? Is it some standard notation in your field?
Let us know since we can consider adding it.

BTW, one of my colleagure figured some formula for this

The only diff is K6+0 will show as K6+000

Thanks, Snow

Hello,
What's the relationship of the bottom string with the numbers on the top.
Does K5 means the number is less than 1000 and k6 means in thousands? Then the numbers after + means show hundreds part only.

If a tick label is 2400. What should it show?

We have Formula to do some conversion of numeric tick labels, also some different display format. But yours seems complicated.

One way easier than adding text objects is to double click tick labels.
Change Type as "Tick Indexed String", then type in strings u want to show for each tick, separated by space key.

Or put text for each tick in a new column in the same worksheet as data.
Then double click tick label and set Type as "Tick Indexed Dataset" and choose the column to use as tick label.

Thanks, Snow

hi,
how can I change the name of tick label of x axis.
The X-axis label above is from column A of the worksheet and is of numeric type
The following label is desired and of type text

my solution is to delete the above one and add text object with the desired name to the position. is there an easy way?

I couldn't reproduce the issue of 2nd, 3rd ctrl+clicks not showing mini toolbar.

Usually mini toolbar fades away if u move mouse away from the poped mini toolbar.
But u can always press SHIFT key to bring it back. We want mini toolbar to appear close to selection to save mouse travel, so it will not be a docked toolbar.

There are multiple ways to label data points:
E.g. Instead of Ctrl+clicking to create special points, double click plot. Go to Label tab, Check Enable and check "Show at specified Points Only" and enter row indices there.

Or u can use the annotation toolbar button to label points in Origin.

hello Cecilia,
Another problem about mini toolbar, when I first click data point with ctrl down, the mini toolbar occur, but it did not when I click the second point, third...
What's wrong
Whether the mini toolbar can be fixed on window like standard toolbar, so it can turn up always on window
Can the point be selected by box, not by click

thanks,
david

Hi David,
As Snow pointed out, those function I mentioned is not supported in Origin 2018. We released Origin 2022b recently, you could down a demo version and try. Please also check following gif about set data label for multiple points.

Thanks
Cecilia

Could you let us know which version of Origin you are using?
Ctrl+click on points in box chart was added in Origin 9.8b (2021b)

Hi Cecilia
it does not work to select data points in box chart with ctrl key down
in graph window. I don't fand show data label button.
I want to use format brush in graph window to coppy the object format to another object, in stead of using copy format in context menu

Thanks
david

Hi,
you can select multiple points in box chart with ctrl key down, and then select show data label button in mini toolbar.
About format brush, do you mean you want to use it in worksheet? Could you provide more details?

Thanks
Cecilia
