Origin Ver. 2025 and Service Release 10.2.0.188
Operating System:win11

Does anyone have experience with the imort wizard concerning search dor a line that seperates header from data.

I do have .tsv- data files with variable header size in which the line ">End of header" seperates header information from rest of file.
Rest of file contains one line with colum names followed by one line with col units. Beginning from next line (3rd under >End of header) data cols with data seperated by tab follows.

The import wizard seems to be prepared for search of a special line as seperator.

Until now in all versions of Origin I never managed to get this feature working.

Do other users experience the same?

Our CSV connector supports specifying the string to mark the begin of data.

E.g. I can import your data fine by
1. Click the Import Single ASCII toolbar button or Choose Data: Connect from File: TXT/CSV
2. CSV Connector dialog opens to pick the data file.
3. Please make sure "Show Options" checkbox is checked.
4. Expand the Data Block Marker node.
5. In Start field, enter >End of header
6. Check "Data has column name" and "Data has units".
7. Set "Data has comments" to "None"
8. Click OK.

Column A contents are left-aligned which indicates it's not treated as Date/number. I am guessing it's because of "," there. You can
Double click Column A header
Set Format as Date.
Display: Custom Display.
Set the format as yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss,###
Click OK
--> Column A will be date. (right aligned)

Thanks, Snow

Hello,

The lines at the beginning of data file (above column name and units) are called main headers. The two lines of column name and units are called subheaders, which usually has same separator as data part.

There is an "Auto determine header lines" checkbox in import wizard to detect the main header. Unless there isn't clear-cut different between main and subheaders, it should work.

Could you share an example data file so we could check further?

If you don't want to share the data here, please submit a ticket with data attached

Thanks, Snow
